About Garrison Borthwick

Creative Technologist Building Skills in AI, UX Design & Web Development

I am Garrison Borthwick, a Massachusetts-based graphic designer, reprographics specialist, musician, artist, father, and applied artificial intelligence student. My work connects visual creativity with technical problem-solving through UX design, JavaScript, Python, SQL, web development, digital imaging, and creative technology.

My Background

My path into technology has not been perfectly linear, and that is one of the strengths I bring to my work. I began in creative fields, studied animation and motion graphics, worked in service and retail jobs, became a father, and built a professional background in printing, graphics, and fine art reproduction.

I currently work in the printing and graphics department at Riverside Art in Somerset, Massachusetts. In that role, I use Photoshop and high-end imaging equipment to help reproduce giclée prints and digital files for working artists. This experience has given me a strong eye for detail, color, image quality, production workflows, and client-centered creative problem-solving.

I am now continuing my education at Bristol Community College in the Applied Artificial Intelligence program. This will be my second associate degree, following my earlier degree in Animation and Motion Graphics. I have also completed the Google UX Design Certificate through Coursera, and I am actively building a portfolio that combines design, technology, and practical problem-solving.

Skills I Am Building

I am developing a skill set that connects creative production with modern technology. My goal is to move toward work that uses design, programming, AI tools, and problem-solving to create useful digital products and experiences.

How I Learn and Work

I learn best through conversation, experimentation, repetition, and building things myself. I tend to understand ideas more deeply after talking them through, testing them, breaking them, and rebuilding them into something useful.

  • I learn well through discussion, explanation, and hands-on experimentation.
  • I like to figure things out by building, testing, and improving real projects.
  • I am working on breaking larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks.
  • I am developing stronger habits around time management, consistency, and portfolio-building.
  • I am especially interested in the overlap between creativity, AI, UX, and practical web tools.
